Here are a few of the happenings on tap this spring in Dallas.
Dallas Blooms at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens (8525 Garland Rd)
One of the most acclaimed floral explosions in the country takes place at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens this time of year, and there’s no better way to welcome in the season than appreciating it firsthand. The 66-acre property’s annual Dallas Blooms event runs this year from February 19th through April 10th.
The 2022 Dallas Blooms theme is “Birds in Paradise,” so in addition to hundreds of thousands of blooming tulips and other bulbs, plus flowering Japanese cherries and azaleas, the spring festival will feature huge peacock topiaries, bird shows and talks, and other feathered flourishes. You’ll also get to enjoy live music, tastings, cooking classes, and other attractions while reveling in the budding, blossoming, fragrant wonderland overlooking White Rock Lake.
The Nasher Sculpture Center (2001 Flora St.): “Spring Break at the Nasher”
Just a stone’s throw from Hotel Crescent Court in the Dallas Arts District—and adjoining the fantastic Dallas Museum of Art—the Nasher Sculpture Center is one of the foremost of its kind in the country, displaying more than 300 modern and contemporary works by de Kooning, Picasso, Rodin, and others from the Raymond and Patsy Nasher Collection. From March 16th through the 20th, the institution will be offering its free Nasher” event, celebrating this year’s recipient of the Nasher Prize—the Iranian-born, Berlin-based visual artist Nairy Baghramian—with a variety of free, all-ages programming. Enjoy coloring stations and other hands-on art activities alongside guided tours from 11 AM to 5 PM throughout the week.
Spring Saturday Day Camps at the Dallas Zoo (650 S.R.L. Thornton Freeway)
Another ideal spring activity for kids will soon be available at the Dallas Zoo: Spring Saturday Day Camps. Offered from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM on particular Saturdays in April and May, this children’s program provides fun education focused on the animal world so memorably on display at this top-quality zoo. The topics are “Zoo Sleuths” (April 17th), “Undercover Predator” (April 24th, “Forensic Felines” (May 15th), and “Trailing Tracks” (May 22nd).
