One of America’s great urban centers, Dallas provides extensive opportunities for hiking, biking, and other outdoor activities in and around the metro area, from city greenspaces to remarkable nature preserves.
Here are just a few prime destinations for pedal-powered jaunts and scenic hikes within easy reach of your Hotel Crescent Court guestroom or suite!
The Katy Trail
The multiuse Katy Trail runs some 3.5 miles along the former route of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (the “Katy”), including right through Uptown Dallas. This rails-to-trail path is one of the best-known cycling spots in town.
The Santa Fe Trail
Another rails-to-trail gem, the Santa Fe Trail in East Dallas links White Rock Lake and Deep Ellum along the old Santa Fe Railroad line. This 5.3-mile path also connects to the Preston Ridge Trail to offer a 20-plus-mile circuit.
White Rock Lake
Speaking of White Rock Lake, this is one of Dallas’s most-beloved outdoor playgrounds. Along with paddling on the namesake reservoir, the adjoining parkland includes more than nine miles of multiuse trails appealing to both cyclists and walkers alike.
Trinity River Audubon Center
The biggest urban bottomland forest in the country—strung with wetlands and prairie openings as well—composes the 6,000-acre “Great Trinity Forest,” a wonderful place for hikers, birdwatchers, and all-around nature enthusiasts enjoying a getaway to Hotel Crescent Court. Five miles of nature trails weave through its productive habitats—bring those binoculars!
Cedar Ridge Preserve
Another fantastic taste of wild Texas that’s just a hop, skip, and jump from the heart of Dallas, the 600-acre Cedar Ridge Preserve, also an Audubon property, encompasses a fine mix of Texas Hill Country ecosystems along the White Rock Escarpment. Trekking some nine miles of trails—including the Cedar Brake, Escarpment, Bluebonnet, Prairie, Fossil Valley, and Possumhaw routes—explore juniper scrub, oak woodlands, and blackland prairie.
